AdultJiu-Jitsu

Adult Jiu-Jitsu runs on two tracks. Fundamentals works through a four-month curriculum: defensive structures and escapes, top control and submissions, the guard and how to sweep and submit from it, and passing the guard with balance and economy of movement. You can enter into any class in the cycle as a complete beginner.All-Levels shifts focus each month to look in depth at different concepts, positions, submissions or movements based on the needs of the gym. Classes flow more freely than Fundamentals and are open to any experience level. Both tracks begin standing with takedown setups, entries and finishes, and both end with live training.

Full schedule

Two tracks. One mat.

Beginners start in Fundamentals and add All-Levels whenever they want more. Both run every week, so you can join at any point in the cycle.

1

Fundamentals: the four-month cycle

Escapes and defensive structure, top control and submissions, the guard, then passing the guard. One position per month, four months to see them all, and you can walk into any class in the cycle as a complete beginner.

2

All-Levels: the monthly mat focus

One position, submission or concept taken apart over four weeks: the mechanics, the common answers, and the answers to those answers. Open to any experience level.

3

Every class starts standing

Takedown setups, entries and finishes that connect to the day's ground work. You learn to get the fight to the floor, not just what to do once you are there.

4

Every class ends in live training

Full-resistance rounds to test the work. The room runs from day-one beginners to black belts, and everyone gets rounds that fit.

Every class, same arc.

First

A controlled takedown

Every class starts on the feet. Setups, entries and finishes, taught to be safe for the person being thrown.

Then

One concept on the mat

The month's position, taught as a concept with specific examples. You drill it with a partner at your own pace.

Finally

Structured live training

Rounds with rules that fit where you are. Watch from the wall on night one if you want. You'll want in by night three.

Before you come in.

Do I need to be in shape first?

No. Fundamentals is built for complete beginners and you go at your own pace. Fitness comes from training, not before it.

Which class should I start with?

Any Fundamentals class, any week. Come as you are and a coach will meet you at the door. Add All-Levels whenever you want a deeper look at the art.

Gi or nogi?

Mostly nogi: shorts or spats and a rash guard or fitted t-shirt. Tuesday evening is the gi class. Ask us about a loaner gi for your first gi class.

Will I have to spar on day one?

Only if you want to. Live training closes every class and you're welcome to watch from the wall.
